PM Modi’s Visit to Thailand: Strengthening Diplomatic and Cultural Ties
Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a grand ceremonial welcome in Thailand, underscoring the deepening relationship between the two nations. Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs, shared an update on X (formerly Twitter), mentioning that Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra warmly welcomed PM Modi at the Government House in Bangkok, where he was honored with a Guard of Honour. The leaders engaged in discussions aimed at shaping the future of India-Thailand relations.

India-Thailand Partnership Reaches New Heights
During their discussions, both nations upgraded their bilateral ties to a Strategic Partnership and formalized agreements across various sectors through Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs). These agreements mark a significant step in expanding economic, diplomatic, and strategic collaborations between the two countries.

Symbolic Exchange & Strengthening Spiritual Bonds
A significant moment in the visit was the presentation of the ‘World Tipitaka’ to PM Modi by PM Shinawatra. The Tipitaka, a sacred Buddhist scripture containing over nine million syllables from the Pali Canon, was first published by Thailand in 2016 to honor King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s (Rama IX) 70-year reign. It has since been shared with over 30 countries as a symbol of peace and wisdom.

Receiving the Tripitaka with folded hands, PM Modi expressed his gratitude, stating, “On behalf of ‘Buddha Bhoomi’ India, I accept this sacred text with deep reverence. Last year, Lord Buddha’s relics were sent from India to Thailand, and it is heartening that over four million devotees had the opportunity to pay their respects.”

Cultural Celebrations & Shared Heritage
To celebrate the cultural bond between India and Thailand, PM Modi attended a performance of ‘Ramakien’, the Thai adaptation of the Ramayana. Reflecting on this experience, he shared on social media, “An extraordinary cultural connection! Witnessed a breathtaking performance of the Thai Ramayana, ‘Ramakien.’ This enriching experience beautifully reflects the deep-rooted civilizational ties between our nations. The Ramayana continues to bridge hearts and traditions across Asia.
