Significance and History of ‘Holi’

We celebrate the Festival Holi because according to its traditional story, there was a devil king named Hiranyakashyap in past times. He started thinking himself to be Almighty God by being shattered in self- esteem. He banned taking the name of God (Devta) in his realm. But the son of Hiranyakashyap has got the boon that she will never be consumed in the Fire.

One day Hiranyakashyap commanded Holika to sit in the Fire taking his son Prahlad in her lap. While sitting in the fire, Holika Dahan is observed every year in the memory of God’s devotee Prahlad.

The Ancient Hindu festival ‘Holi’ celebrates the eternal and divine love of god Radha Krishna and marks the victory good over devil, also the day celebrates the triumph of supreme god Vishnu as Varasimha Narayana who killed Hiranyakashyap. Furthermore, People assemble around the Holika to take blessings and offer their affection and devotion to God.

On Holi people again gather and apply Colour on each other.
