Google AI Mode now answers questions from images.
Google recently introduced a trial feature in Search called “AI Mode,” built to tackle complex, multi-part questions with greater depth. Much like platforms such as ChatGPT or Perplexity AI, it’s designed to provide smarter, more detailed answers to even the most challenging queries.
Similar to tools like ChatGPT or Perplexity AI, this mode is designed to give users more insightful and detailed responses to challenging queries.
Now, Google is taking things even further by adding multimodal capabilities to this feature. Users can now upload a photo or snap one in real time to ask questions based on the image. According to Google, the AI is smart enough to understand not just individual objects but the entire scene — including how things are positioned, their shapes, colors, and materials, and how they all connect.
Unlike traditional search, which handles one query at a time, AI Mode analyzes the image through multiple angles and questions. That means users won’t just get surface-level answers—they’ll get more context, more depth, and a much richer understanding of what they’re asking about.

This approach is far more effective than traditional or even basic AI-powered searches. It helps users access a wider range of information — like comparing different options or diving into a new topic — all without needing to enter multiple separate queries.
At the moment, this enhanced AI Mode is only available to Google One AI Premium users in the United States, but there’s a good chance it could roll out to other countries later this year.
