Anyone can still\u00a0weigh their options\u00a0(choose) between the old and new tax plans based on their financial situation (previously stated as &#8216;based on your preferences and financial circumstances&#8217;).<\/p>\n<p>Anyone can retain the\u00a0freedom to switch back\u00a0(opt out of) to the old plan if they choose the new one until they file their return for the tax year 2024-25 (previously stated as &#8216;opt out of the new regime until filing their return for Assessment Year 2024-25&#8217;).<\/p>\n<p>Individuals without business income can even\u00a0go back and forth\u00a0(alternate) between the plans each year (no change in wording). \u00a0Some\u00a0misconceptions\u00a0(inaccuracies circulating) about the new tax system have been spreading online.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Important instructions :<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The new tax scheme (section 115BAC(1A)) introduced last year (in 2023) continues unchanged as of April 1, 2024. This differs from the traditional plan (without exemptions).<\/li>\n<li>The new tax plan applies to individual filers (people who file taxes themselves, not companies or businesses). It is the standard selection (default option) starting from the tax year 2023-24 (financial year). The corresponding assessment for taxes (filing year) is 2024-25 (assessment year).<\/li>\n<li>The new one also offers <strong>lower tax rates overall (significantly lower). However, unlike the old regime, you won&#8217;t be able to claim many tax breaks (exemptions and deductions) except for the standard deduction of Rs. 50,000 for salary and Rs. 15,000 for family pension.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>While the new tax plan is the\u00a0go-to option\u00a0(default regime), taxpayers have the\u00a0flexibility\u00a0(freedom) to choose whichever system (old or new) works best for their situation (beneficial to them).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Individuals can also switch out<\/strong>\u00a0(opt-out) of the new tax plan until they file their return for the tax year 2024-25 (assessment year). Even better, individual filers (eligible persons) without business income can\u00a0<strong>go back and forth<\/strong>\u00a0(choose) between the plans each year (financial year).
