The Cabinet decided to increase the subsidy for Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana beneficiaries from \u20b9200 to \u20b9300 per LPG cylinder, as announced by Union Minister Anurag Thakur on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

The government has hiked the subsidy for Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana beneficiaries by \u20b9100 per LPG cylinder, bringing it to \u20b9300 per cylinder. The decision was announced by Union Minister Anurag Thakur on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Ujjwala beneficiaries will save \u20b9100 on each 14.2-kg LPG cylinder after the government increased the subsidy from \u20b9200 to \u20b9300 per cylinder. This means that they will now pay \u20b9603 instead of \u20b9703.<\/p>\n

The government’s decision to hike the subsidy for Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana beneficiaries by \u20b9100 per cylinder comes just one month after it cut the price of LPG cylinders for all domestic consumers by \u20b9200. Union Minister Anurag Thakur said that the additional subsidy could cost the government an extra \u20b97,680 crore in the financial year 2023-24.<\/p>\n

Last month, the Indian government approved the release of \u20b91,650 crore to oil marketing companies to provide 75 lakh LPG connections under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) scheme. With the provision of an additional 75 lakh Ujjwala connections, the total number of PMUY beneficiaries has now increased to 10.35 crore.<\/p>\n

The Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) is a government scheme launched in 2016 to provide LPG connections to women from poor and marginalized households in rural India. The scheme aims to reduce the use of traditional cooking fuels, such as firewood and cow dung, which can have harmful health and environmental impacts.<\/p>\n

Last month, the Union Cabinet approved the extension of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) to provide an additional 75 lakh LPG<\/a> connections over three years, from financial year 2023-24 to 2025-26. This will bring the total number of PMUY beneficiaries to 10.35 crore.<\/p>\n
