However, he later changed his focus to engineering and graduated from the College of Science in Pune, one of the oldest engineering schools in Asia.<\/p>\n<p data-sourcepos=\"11:1-11:318\">After graduating, Visvesvaraya began his career in the Public Works Department for the Government of Bombay. He worked on several complex projects, including developing a patented irrigation system with water floodgates at the Khadakvasla reservoir near Pune and constructing the Krishna Raja Sagara Dam in Mysore.<\/p>\n<p data-sourcepos=\"13:1-13:145\">Visvesvaraya&#8217;s work helped to improve the lives of millions of people in India. He is considered one of the greatest engineers in Indian history.<\/p>\n<p data-sourcepos=\"13:1-13:145\"><strong>Engineers&#8217; Day 2023 theme<\/strong>: Engineering to build a better future for all.<\/p>\n<p>Engineers play a vital role in solving complex problems and building a better future. For example, engineers are working on developing solutions to climate change, poverty, and disease. They are also working on developing new technologies to improve food security and water quality. Same as engineers developing new technologies that improve our lives in countless ways.\u00a0This includes medical devices, smartphones, computers, and renewable energy technologies.
