World Wide Web Day : Celebrating 34 Years of the Internet.

Every year on August 1, web users celebrate World Wide Web Day. This day commemorates the invention of the World Wide Web by Tim Berners-Lee in 1989. Berners-Lee was a British computer scientist who worked at CERN, a world-renowned laboratory for particle physics.  He proposed the idea of a global hypertext system that would allow scientists to share information more easily.

The World Wide Web has since become an essential part of our lives The web is a versatile tool that we use for a variety of purposes, including communication, learning, shopping, and entertainment. It has transformed the way we conduct business and engage  with the world around us

Tim Berners-Lee, an English computer scientist, invented the World Wide Web in 1989 while working at CERN. He proposed the idea of a global hypertext system that would allow scientists to share information more easily. CERN implemented the system in 1990 and opened it to the public in 1991.

The World Wide Web (WWW) provides several safeguards to protect users, including:

  • Encryption: Encryption scrambles data so only those with the key can read it. This protects sensitive information like credit card numbers and passwords when sent over the internet.
  • Digital signatures: Digital signatures use cryptography to create a unique code that is linked to the sender. This code ensures that a message or document has not been tampered with since it was sent.
  • Firewalls: Firewalls are a way of blocking unauthorized access to a computer or network. They work by filtering traffic and only allowing traffic that meets certain criteria to pass through.
  • Viruses, malware, and spyware: Several software programs can harm a computer, such as viruses, malware, and spyware. People can download these programs from the internet or attach them to emails. Antivirus software and firewalls can protect against these programs.
  • Privacy settings: Most websites allow users to control their privacy settings. This means that users can choose how much information they want to share with the website. For example, users can choose whether or not to share their name, email address, and other personal information.

There are many exciting developments on the horizon for the web. We are seeing the rise of new technologies like artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and blockchain, and these technologies are all poised to have a major impact on the web.

For example : AI, VR, and blockchain are being used to create more personalized, immersive, secure, and transparent web experiences.

These are just a few of the ways that the web is evolving. The web is only going to get more powerful and influential.

In conclusion, World Wide Web Day is a time for communities to come together and reflect on the impact of the Internet on society. It is a reminder that the internet has the power to transform our lives and that we should continue to develop and use technology in a way that benefits everyone.
