World Wetlands Day: How we celebrate this Day, Theme, History and Importance

Every year World Wetlands Day is celebrated worldwide on 2nd February with an intension to spread global awareness and knowledge about the important role of wetlands for human beings and the earth.

Theme for this Year

This year’s theme for World Wetland Day 2023 is “It is Time for Wetlands Restoration”. It tells about the urgent requirement of prioritizing wetland restoration.

History of World Wetlands Day 2023

On 2nd February’1971 in Ramsar, a city of Iran, several environmentalists assembled to raise the safety and protection for wetlands, that are the small environments of plant existence and organisms observe within marine species that bring about sustainable health in many ways to water species and environments as a whole.

People started observing this day every year from 2nd February’1997 as the day serves to the impact and certain production that wetlands have had on the planet earth and also brings society together for the benefit of Mother
Earth.

Importance of World Wetlands Day 2023

This day plays an important role in strengthening a broad spread of biodiversity and maintaining many natural cycles. The wetlands also helps in water purification and flood control, provides a natural environment for the diverse plant, animal species and human beings.

The day spread knowledge among people by creating awareness about the protection and restoration of crucial ecosystems.

How we celebrate this Day

Many programs, educational seminars, awareness movements and camps, workshops and meetings are held worldwide to make sure wetland restoration movements that focuses on preserving crucial ecosystems and to raise awareness about its importance.
