World Day of Social Justice 2023: A Global Coalition for Social Justice, Know Theme for this year

Every year on 20th February, the World Day for Social Justice is observed. The main aim of the day is to spread knowledge of social in justice and to unite many different communities all around the corner of world in an effort to do away with poverty, gender, inability to read or write, physical discrimination and cultural / religious discrimination and to make a society that is socially united.

The day promotes Social Justice and remove the barriers based on age, gender, race, ethnicity, disability, culture and religion.

Theme of this year

The theme decided for this day is “Overcoming Barriers and Unleashing Opportunities for Social Justice”. That aims on the proposals made in the broad outline to encourage international cooperation and to bring back public confidence in the Central government.

The day promotes general discussion with Member states, younger generation, associations, UN agencies, civil society organization and stakeholders about the steps that has to be taken to make stronger social contract.

On 26th November’2007, the General Assembly announced 20th February to be celebrated every year as the World Day of Social Justice.

A Global Coalition for Social Justice

Poverty and discrimination can be seen in many corners of the world. Today there is vital need for concerted action to lessen the injustice, at global, cultural and national levels.

It is important for the multilateral system to provide answers to people’s daily issues and to do so in an effectual and reasonable manner. Social Justices makes communities and economies function better and lessen common problems such as poverty, biasness and social tensions.

It has a significant role in accomplishing more comprehensive and sustainable socio- economic development ways and is a solution for attaining the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda.

It is important that the multilateral system join together and shared opinions and goals and find the means to respond to peoples desires and ambitions. That is why social justice has become one of the mainsprings of the resumed multilateralism that is needed; a rallying goal but also an important tool for a more effectual Multilateral System.
