Vinesh Phogat became the first Indian woman Wrestler to win two medals at the world championship on Wednesday by defeating Emma Jonah of Sweden in the repechage. She indeed created History and made our country proud.
28- year-old Vinesh had earlier won a bronze medal at the World Wrestling Championship in Kazakhstan in 2019. Vinesh was a gold medal contender but lost 0-7 in a one- sided match to the Mongolian wrestler in the 53kg category on Tuesday.
Mongolian wrestler Khulan Batkhuyag confirmed her place in the Final repechage round. In the repechage round, Vinesh first defeated the Kazakhstan wrestler 4-0.
Azerbaijan’s Leyla Gurbanova could not come in the next round due to an injury. Vinesh entered the bronze medal round. Third time in commonwealth Games medalist Vinesh clinched the medal after beating Emma from Surden 8-0 in the bronze medal round.

Wins Gold in Commonwealth Games
Wrestling Champion Vinesh Phogat also won the gold medal in the Commonwealth Games and that tournament was on the basis of the Nordic system.
Talking about her first match which was against world championship bronze medalist Canadian Wrestler Samantha Lee Stewart. After that match Vinesh played really top – notch and defeated Nigeria’s Mercy Bolafunoluwa Adekuoroa in her second match and Sri Lanka’s Keshni Maduravalge in her third match.
Disappointing Performance at the third Olympics
Vinesh Phogat’s has all the chances to win, but due to her Knee injury she couldn’t participate in her quarterfinals of the 2016 Rio Olympics. This must have shattered her wishes to win medals but unfortunately, her bad luck didn’t left her in the second match that too at the same time, she was out of the last eight stages in the Tokyo Olympics.
This tragedy must have pushed her to quit wrestling, but later she gained her confidence and she came back with flying colours.
