Vijay Diwas 2022: Victory over Pakistan in the 1971 War, Importance and History of the Day

Every year we celebrate Vijay Diwas on 16 th December in our country to recall and Kudos the bravery of Indian soldiers.  The commemorate India victory over Pakistan in the year 1971 War (the Indo- Pakistan War), which proved the way to the formation of Bangladesh.

Bangladeshi people also celebrates this day as Bijoy Diwas every year on 16 th December as this days represent or delineate India’s fearless and valorous soldiers, firm determinate, allegiance, devotion and responsibility towards the country.

Vijay Diwas Importance

December 16 th is an important Historical event for our country,  the battle was instituted as the escapee and fugitive flooded into the Eastern region of India. This battle was indeed a Historical battle for the country. This is the reason why December 16 th is observed as ‘Vijay Diwas’ to celebrate India’s Victory over Pakistan.

It is believed that the battle that took place in 1971, around 3,900 Indian fighters were put to death and around 9,851 were found bruised.

In the battle, Pakistan also lost many beings around 8,000 people died and 25,000 injured. Every year on this date the Defense Minister and the leaders of the Indian Armed Forces, Air Force, Army and Navy, pay the tribute to the Martyred brave soldiers at India Gate’s Amar Jawan Jyoti, New Delhi .

Know the History

The War was started in the year 1971 when our country triumph in the battle against Pakistan. The battle was actually started on 3rd December and finished after 13 days of continuous war on 16th December with the surrender from the Pakistan soldiers.

Around 93,000 Pakistani Military Force had given in and capitulated at that time. Pakistani major- General Amir Abdullah Khan Niazi signed the ‘instrument of surrender’ to the Indian Army. Then East Pakistani  promulgated the need for severance on 26 th March, 1971.

After the war, former Indian PM Indira Gandhi stipulated her readiness to help Bangladesh to fight for their country’s self- government and sovereignty.
