TV Channel Guidelines : Compulsory to Telecast Content on National and Public Interest Straight For 30 Minutes Daily

The Union Cabinet has given his consent to for telecasting content in national and public interest straight for 30 minutes. While these public guidelines are effective from Wednesday, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting officials said TV channels will be allowed to take some time to develop thought or visualize mentally and create such content.

Under these new guidelines, minimum 30 minutes are to be given daily to broadcast content referring to “national and public interest”, for which eight theme ideas have been provided to TV Channels for creating such contents.

The motive behind this change, as states by the government is that radio waves are public property and should be used in the interest of the general public. A firm/ LLP having authorization under these rules for up linking a broadcast and its down linking in the country/ besides Foreign channels down linked in India can take on public service telecasting for a period of 30 minutes daily on theme of national significance and of social matter, adding education and broaden literacy content, agriculture and rural evolution, health and family welfare, science and technology, welfare of women, welfare of the weaker section of the society, saving the atmosphere and of culture heritage and national incorporation.

These guidelines are same for all channels, except these highlighted especially as exempt, regarding this detailed notice will be given soon. This exemption can also apply to wildlife channels and foreign channels, apart from live telecast in instance of sports channels. Now the government will, occasionally issue general counseling to channels for broadcasting of content in public interest and the channel have to follow with the same. Besides, it has become necessary for channels up linking in waves bands other than C- band to encrypt their signals.

Now for up linking and down linking of a satellite TV channels “shall be subject to permission and consent by the Ministry of Home Affair and wherever contemplating necessary, of other authorities,” according to the new guidelines.

Telecast firms will also be permitted to uplink up broad channels from Indian teleports, let us inform you with the help of this broadcast will create employment convenience and make India a teleport centre for other countries.
