Sania Mirza to Retire from Professional Tennis at Next Month’s Dubai WTA Championship

Tennis Player Sania Mirza has made her plans to retire from professional tennis at Dubai Tennis Championships, the event which is going to start from 19 th February.

The player is retiring at the age of 36, initially intended to hang up her racquet. After the end of last season in Dubai the player informed that she delayed her retirement plans because she was suffering from injury, and she wants to bid farewell to the Game in the UAE, where she has inhabited from many years.

Mirza is considered as India’s greatest woman’s tennis player, till now she has won six major championship titles and she will compete her last major match next month at the Australian open, where earlier she got the woman’s doubles crown in 2016.

The player confirmed her retirement news in a recent interview with the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA), after WTA Sania said that she intends to retire on the finals of the Dubai Tennis championships. The Indian player will be seen playing in women’s doubles at the Australian open which will start from 19th February 1.e next month alongside Kazakhstan’s player Anna Danilina, which will be her last tennis match at a Grand slam event.

She unfortunately has missed the last year’s US open due to an elbow injury and other health issues have also affected her in the last few years that includes a persistent calf issue but she always remain strong inside.

Sania Mirza told wtatennis.com “Honestly, the person that I am, I like to do things on my own terms. So I do not want to be forced out by injury. So I have been training”.

She also said that her choices for life have changed and she do not have the capacity to emotionally push her body to the limit every single day. She now wants to share her experience in the places where she used to reside one in Hyderabad and one in Dubai.
