Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a flight in a Tejas Fighter jet to attend his visit to the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) site in Bengaluru on saturday.
“Expressing his elation and unwavering faith in India’s indigenous capabilities, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed his successful sortie in the Tejas fighter aircraft as an enriching experience that reinforced his pride and optimism in the nation’s potential,” the Prime Minister stated in a social media post.
“Soaring through the skies in the Tejas fighter jet today, I am filled with immense pride and can confidently declare that our unwavering dedication and hard work have propelled us to stand tall among the world’s leaders in self-reliance. My heartfelt congratulations to the Indian Air Force, DRDO, HAL, and the entire nation of India,” Prime Minister Modi asserted.

India’s Tejas light combat aircraft has garnered significant interest from numerous countries, with US defense giant GE Aerospace forming a partnership with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) to jointly manufacture engines for the Mk-II variant during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent state visit to the US. This collaboration marks a significant milestone in India’s aerospace industry and underscores the growing global recognition of the Tejas’ capabilities.
In a testament to India’s growing prowess in defense manufacturing, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh announced in April 2023 that the nation’s defense exports had reached an unprecedented high of ₹15,920 crore in 2022-2023. This remarkable achievement highlights India’s commitment to self-reliance in defense production and its ability to meet the evolving security needs of its global partners.
Marking a significant step towards strengthening India’s air defense, the Narendra Modi government has approved the procurement of 83 LCA Mk 1A Tejas fighter aircraft from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited at a cost of ₹36,468 crore.
