PM Modi Meets ASEAN Leaders to Strengthen Ties
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is in Jakarta, Indonesia to attend the 20th ASEAN-India Summit and the East Asia Summit. He arrived in Jakarta on Thursday morning and was greeted by a warm welcome from the Indian diaspora.
In his address to the ASEAN-India Summit, PM Modi highlighted the importance of ASEAN to India’s Act East policy and Indo-Pacific initiative. He said that ASEAN is a central pillar of India’s foreign policy and that the two sides have a shared vision for a peaceful, stable, and prosperous Indo-Pacific region.
PM Modi also met with the leaders of several ASEAN countries on the sidelines of the summit. He discussed ways to strengthen cooperation between India and ASEAN in areas such as trade, investment, connectivity, and security.
PM Modi is scheduled to return to India later today. He will then travel to Bali, Indonesia, to attend the G20 Leaders Summit.
After a short but productive visit to Indonesia, Prime Minister Narendra Modi returned home on Thursday. He had attended the ASEAN-India and East Asia summits in Jakarta, where he reaffirmed India’s strong ties with the countries in the strategically important region.
The prime minister arrived in Jakarta in the morning and met with the leaders of several ASEAN countries. He also addressed the ASEAN-India Summit, where he highlighted the importance of the region to India’s foreign policy.
PM Modi’s visit to Indonesia was seen as a success, as he was able to strengthen India’s ties with the region and promote its interests in the Indo-Pacific.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was welcomed to Jakarta International Airport with a traditional Indonesian dance performance. He also shook hands with members of the Indian diaspora and took selfies with them. In a tweet in Indonesian, Modi said that he was looking forward to the ASEAN-related meetings and working with other leaders to create a better world.

Modi arrived in Jakarta on Wednesday night and will be returning to New Delhi late on Thursday. Indonesia, the current chair of the ASEAN summit, made several adjustments to the schedule of the summits to accommodate Modi’s early return.
Due to his tight schedule, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will not be holding any bilateral meetings on the margins of the ASEAN-India and East Asia summits.
The ASEAN-India Summit is expected to produce a new initiative on maritime security. This will be the first ASEAN-India Summit since the two sides upgraded their ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership in 2022. Since then, the focus has been on maritime security, cyber security, the digital economy, and emerging areas of cooperation. An ASEAN-India defense ministers’ meeting was held in November of last year, and the two sides conducted their first maritime exercise in May.
