Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) facility in Bengaluru on Saturday to congratulate scientists on the successful landing of Chandrayaan-3 on the Moon.

The Prime Minister, who had just returned from a trip to South Africa and Greece, declared August 23 as National Space Day.

In a 45-minute speech, he called the Moon landing a turning point in India’s position as a spacefaring nation in the world.

He also announced that the landing site of Chandrayaan-3 would be named Shiv Shakti point and the crash site of the failed Chandrayaan-2 mission in 2019 will be known as Tiranga point.

”Humans have never seen images of this part of the Moon before. India has made it possible for the world to see these images for the first time. This is a testament to the scientific spirit, technology, and temperament of our scientists. The whole world is appreciative of your work.”
