Oppo Reno 12 Series Goes Global: Here’s the Lowdown

Oppo’s Reno 12 and Reno 12 Pro, already available in China, are going global! Set for a June 18th launch event in Ibiza, Spain, these new phones boast innovative generative AI features.

While the Chinese versions of the Reno 12 and Reno 12 Pro (launched in May for around ₹31,000 and ₹39,000 respectively) offered AI features like AI Portrait and AI LinkBoost, the global models launching on June 18th might have some internal changes.

Software and Display

  • Both phones will likely run the latest Android 14 with Oppo’s own ColorOS 14 on top.
  • Expect a large, 6.7-inch curved OLED display with a smooth 120Hz refresh rate for a great viewing experience. The display should also be protected by tough Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2.

Performance and Storage

  • The standard Reno 12 is expected to pack a MediaTek Dimensity 8250 processor, while the Pro version gets a bump up to the MediaTek Dimensity 9200+. Both are built on a 4nm process for efficient performance.
  • You can choose from configurations with up to 16GB of RAM and up to 512GB of storage, so you should have plenty of power and space for your needs.

Cameras

  • Both phones are rumored to have a triple-camera system on the back, featuring a high-resolution 50-megapixel main sensor.
  • They’ll also likely include a 50-megapixel telephoto lens and an 8-megapixel ultra-wide sensor for capturing various scenes.
  • The Pro version might have a slight edge with its Sony IMX890 main sensor compared to the Sony LYT-600 sensor in the standard Reno 12.

Battery, Durability, and Security

  • Both Reno 12 models are expected to offer a hefty 5,000mAh battery with support for speedy 80W SuperVOOC fast charging.
  • They should also be resistant to dust and splashes with an IP65 rating, and have an in-display fingerprint sensor for security. However, it’s important to note that these features are based on the Chinese models, and the global variants launching in India might have some differences.

Oppo Reno 12 Pro and Reno 12 Design (Based on Rumors)

  • Leaks suggest the global design of the Reno 12 series will closely resemble the Chinese variants revealed earlier. Tipster Sudhanshu Ambhore shared images that support this rumor.

Possible Design Tweaks for Global Release

  • The biggest buzz surrounds the display. Unlike the four-curved-edge screen on both the Chinese Reno 12 and Reno 12 Pro, rumors suggest the global standard Reno 12 might have a display curved only on the left and right edges.
  • Leaked renders by tipster Sudhanshu Ambhore also hint at a few other design changes. The global models might have a triple rear camera system and flat edges, with both volume and power buttons positioned on the right side
