Students of Chandigarh university were seen sitting in protest for the second night also, bringing the protest over the objectionable video in the limelight and making it a major issue.
The stir rose on early Sunday morning around 2 am on 18th sept. and continued till 1:30 am early Monday morning 19th sept. The protest came to an end after assurances by the senior college management and the police. The hostel warden where the incident took place will be suspended. The hostel would be checked thoroughly. The bathrooms and rooms privacy would be increased and repaired. Deputy commissioner of Mohali ,Amit Talwar, ordered a magisterial probe and also made a special investigation team. The varsity will remain closed till 24th sept until the situation becomes favourable.
Following the scale of the protest Punjab C.M. Bhagwant Maan had already ordered an immediate probe due to which Some strict actions were also taken by the police by arresting 3 accused demanded by the students over this case. The first accused is the 22 year old first year MBA girl student of the varsity itself. The second accused is said to be her 23 year male friend held from the same village of Rohru in Shimla ,they both are said to be the heart of the whole ruckus. There was also arrest of a 31 year old male from dhalli district of Shimla.
The students said that Objectionable video of around 60 girl students bathing were recorded and sent to the male accused by the girl herself, following which there was claims of suicide attempts. However police officials clarified that after checking the accused girl’s cell phone only her objectionable videos were found on it. In an official statement given by the police official, that ,”NO SUICIDE OR SUICIDE ATTEMPTS WERE MADE, ALSO ONLY ONE VIDEO OF THE GIRL STUDENT HERSELF WAS SHARED WITH THE MALE ACCUSED”.
“The issue has been a communication gap. We have been clarifying again and again. We are ensuring students that law is being followed, all legal procedures are being undertaken,” GS Bhullar, Deputy Inspector General of Police, told reporters.
