Every year we Indians, observe National Tourism Day on 25th January. This day is celebrated to enlighten the significance of tourism for the benefit of Indian economy.
The day focuses on enhancing economic growth along with strengthening our culture and heritage.
Let us inform you that tourism sector alone accounts for 9.2% of the nation’s total GDP and 8.1% of employment. From lessening stress levels to lowering the chance of various chronic diseases, travelling advantages are huge as it provides long- lasting happiness that the cash spent on something else.
History of the Day
The Central Government of India promulgated 25th January as National Tourism Day in the country with the moto to promote the importance of tourism by making people aware about India’s economy.
Although, till now there is no right information regarding the establishment of the day but according to the reports it was probably in the year 1948 when a Tourism Committee was started by the government.
The objective was to protect National heritage and make the beautiful destinations a tourist friendly, happy zone around the country.

Significance
Our country is seen as a multilingual, multi- faith country, where language, religion, accent and dress change after every 5 km of travelling. Same situations are in tourist destinations of India, where one gets to see many hill stations, sea coast, national park, world famous monuments, historical heritage, snow- covered monasteries, beautiful ancient temples which explores from all around the world throng to visit.
The main purpose of this day is to spread the awareness about over country’s destinations and bring them to the world, platform as the tourism is said to be the strongest side of the Indian economy.
Through this day people get to know the importance of the social, political financial and cultural significance of tourism at the World level. That is why National Tourism Day is promulgated every year by the Central Government of India.

The theme this year is ‘Rural and Community Centric Tourism’.

The day is celebrated by announcing numerous programs all around the country like Seminars, cultural events are organized by the government to promote tourism.
