National Engineer Day is celebrated with great fanfare on this day, dedicating the date of 15 th September to Indian Engineers, one day in a year. The Government of India had announced the celebration of National
Engineers Day on 15 September 1968.
In fact, on this day the famous engineer of his time, Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya was born in a Brahmin Family in Muddanahalli, Mysore. Impressed by the works of this engineer, the government tried to pay tribute by celebrating his birthday as Engineer’s Day. Apart from being a Civil engineer, he also became a Politician and the 19 th Diwan of Mysore.
Importance of Engineers Day
According to the report received, India is the Second Country in the world, where there are maximum engineers. That’s why it is called the country of Engineers.
Engineers have an indeed played an important role in the overall development of India. Apart from Civil engineering, India is rapidly moving towards number one in the IT industry other forms of engineering such as
Mechanical, Aeronautical, Chemical, Computer etc. are also extremely important for the development of India and employs a large workforce of talent.
How we celebrate this day?
On the occasion of Engineers Day, various events are organized near the memorial of Sir M Visvesvaraya at his birth place. The event is organized by Visvesvaraya National Memorial Trust in which it includes Sir MV’s
awards, titles and his personal belongings (his glasses, cups, books, titles etc.) are displayed.
Local people consider this place to be like a temple. Senior Ministers and other politicians of the nation pay tribute to him through their speeches.
On this occasion, students in other parts of the country are also motivated to move forward in this direction and do something for the country. Young engineers engaged in research work are rewarded.
Apart from India, Engineers Day is also celebrated on 15 th September in Sri Lanka and Tanzania (Africa) on this day. Everyone’s aim is to respect the engineers of their country and contribute in the building of the nation.
