Makar Sankranti 2023 – Celebrate Festival like This, Check Dos and Don’ts

As per the Drik Panchang, this year Makar Sankranti shall be celebrated on 15 th January, 2023 i.e. Sunday. The festival is commemorated all around India, Sankranti is the time when Sun God is worshipped.

According to Shwetha Krishnamurthy who is a diviner teller and reader of All India Institute of Occult Science informed that, “The Sun God is worshiped in Sankranti as the Sun is a crucial part of human lives, it provides energy to our body, we need Sun rays on us whether its animal or plants, every living being need the sun to survive and that is why it becomes important to worship the Sun god”.

On this Festival, people visit Surya temples and take cleansing bath in the Ganges River, eat Jaggery sweets and sesame also enjoy by taking part in the kite Carnival.

Makar Sankranti is called numerous different names all around the country like it is called Maghi in North India, Sukarant in Central India, Magh Bihu in Assam, and Pongal in Tamil Nadu.

Rituals

According to Shwetha Krishnamurthy,

  •  On the day of Carnival prepare food using sweet pumpkin.
  •  During the evening Aarti, it would be better to use Jujube Fruit, sugarcane pieces.
  •  It is important to make sweet rice, you can make the sweet dish using rice, dal, Joggery, grapes, dry fruits, sugar and milk.
  • Mentioned Food items should be cooked in a pot, which is then offered to Sun God as naivedya (Food offering).

Dos and Don’ts

According to Shwetha Krishnamurthy these are the dos and don’ts of Festival.

Dos:-

1. Share the Food that you prepared this day with the poor people.
2. Eat pure, essential, natural, and vital and energy- containing food, it will be better to cook the Food yourself in your own kitchen.
3. Visit temple
4. Take blessing from elders
5. Try to spread the importance of our festivals and traditions to younger generations.

Don’ts:-

1. Try to avoid eating fast foods or tamastic food on the day.
2. Be energetic and celebrate the festival enthusiastically.
3. Do not smoke or consume alcohol.
4. Do not quarrel anywhere.
