INS Vikrant : 262 meters long, 15 storeys high and weighting 45 thousand tons; The indigenously built aircraft carrier Vikrant will be inducted into the service of the Indian Navy on 2nd September. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also participate in this program and will hand over INS Vikrant to the Indian Navy.

The new INS Vikrant is the first aircraft carrier built in India and with this India will Join the elite group of 6 countries in the world, which are capable of making 40 thousand tons of aircrafts carrier.

Features of INS Vikrant

The length of INS Vikrant is 262 meters and the weight of the vessel is about 45,000 tonnes. The height of this ship is about 59 meters i.e equivalent to a 15 story building. If we talk about his width, then it is 62 meters wide.

  • (INS Vikrant) The battleship is fitted with four gas turbines of 88 MW power and has a maximum speed of 28 knots . Vikrant has successfully completed several phases of sea trials since August 21 last year.
  • INS Vikrant has 76% indigenous spare parts and this warship includes indigenously built Advanced Variety Light Helicopters (ALH) and Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) apart from MiG – 29k fighter Jets, Kamov – 31, MH – 60R and is capable of operating an air wing consisting of 30 aircraft along with multi- role helicopter.
  • INS Vikrant has been specially designed so that take off and landing of aircraft can be done in less area.

This warship has higher front part, which is called STOBAR ( short Take – off but Arrested Landing) design and the advantage of this is that the aircraft can take off and land easily in less space.

Indian Anti Missile will be equipped with Naval Decoy system

INS Vikrant is so big that it cannot be hidden during the war. Therefore, special security arrangements have been made in it so that the enemies can be faced. INS Vikrant will have 32 medium range surface- to– missiles. It will be equipped with AK-630 rotary cannon.

Apart from this, the Indian Anti missile will be equipped with Naval Decoy system, which diverts the laser guided missile from the target.
