Kejriwal Launches ₹18,000 Monthly Aid for Priests and Granthis

On Monday, December 30, Arvind Kejriwal, the national convener of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), introduced the Pujari Granthi Samman Yojana. This scheme aims to recognize and honor temple priests and Gurudwara granthis in Delhi.

Under the scheme, a monthly payment of ₹18,000 will be provided if the AAP wins the upcoming Assembly elections. Registration for the initiative will commence on December 31 at the Hanuman Temple in Connaught Place, where Arvind Kejriwal will be present. This announcement comes as the AAP aims to secure a fourth consecutive term in the Delhi Assembly elections.

Kejriwal stated, “Priests play a role in all our family events, whether joyful or sorrowful, from a child’s birthday to a loved one’s passing. They have preserved our rituals for generations, often neglecting their own families—something we, too, have overlooked.” He emphasized that the payment is not a salary but a gesture of the respect they truly deserve.

As part of his campaign, Kejriwal has announced various schemes to be introduced if the AAP forms the government in Delhi.

Ahead of the 2025 Delhi elections, he launched the “Revidi Per Charcha” campaign, presenting six major promises for the city’s residents. These include expanded welfare programs, advancements in healthcare, and initiatives aimed at supporting the middle class. Kejriwal has highlighted the significance of meeting essential needs such as water, electricity, and healthcare to maintain public trust as AAP seeks re-election.

He has introduced the Sanjivani Yojana, which promises free, unlimited treatment for individuals over 60 in both private and government hospitals. This healthcare initiative is designed to benefit senior citizens.

He has also introduced the Mukyamantri Mahila Samman Rashi, with the amount being raised to ₹2,100 from the current ₹1,000.
