International Youth Day: A Day to Celebrate and Empower Young People

International Youth Day is a day to celebrate and empower young people. Although International Youth Day is a United Nations-recognized day that is celebrated on August 12 each year, it is also a day to call to action for greater investment in young people and their inclusion in decision-making processes. The UN General Assembly adopted the Declaration on the Promotion of Peace and Understanding among Youth in 1965. This declaration aimed to support young leaders and provide them with resources to address global needs.

In 1999, the UN General Assembly officially established this day based on a recommendation from the World Conference of Ministers Responsible for Youth. Although, International Youth Day has since dedicated itself to educating society about the importance of youth participation, engaging young people in politics, and addressing global challenges.
