International Literacy Day is celebrated all over the world on 8 September. World Literacy Day 2022 is celebrated every year on 8 September to know the importance of education in the world.
The main purpose of celebrating this day is to promote the priority of education towards the people in the society.
On this day all kinds of events are organized by the United Nations Organizations UNESCO and International literacy prizes are also given.
It is said that the idea of celebrating ‘International Literacy Day’ to eliminate illiteracy and was first discussed during the World Conference of Ministers of Education in Tehran, Iran from 8 to 19 September in the year 1965.

Theme of World Literacy Day 2022
A theme is issued every year on World Literacy Day, keeping in mind which programs are organized.
This time the programs which is going to be held on the conference of International Literacy Day 2022 are, Transforming Literacy, Learning Spaces, Exploring opportunities and possibilities”. The main aim is to emphasis on bringing many radical changes in the learning environment and methods.
Every year the theme of International Literacy Day is different and accordingly programs and awards are announced.
Literacy figures in India
Talking about the literacy rate in India, it is 84 percent less than the world literacy rate. The total literacy rate in India in the year 2011 is 74.4%, in which male literacy is 82.37% and female literacy is 65.79%.
There is a huge difference in the literacy figures of both. Kerala is the highest literate state in the country and Bihar is the least literate state. Uttar Pradesh is among the five least literate states.

17 lakh illiterate people will be made literate in the state. Under the Nav Bharat Saksharta Abhiyan, instructions has been given that the basic Education offers and Diet Principals of all the district is to make them
literate.
Not only this, a list of volunteer teachers is also being prepared village, township and Majra – wise for educating the identified illiterates.
