Instagram will launch the Edits app in March 2025.

Meta-owned Instagram has introduced a new video editing app called “Edits,” aimed at rivaling CapCut, a popular video editing tool that recently went offline in the U.S. The app is currently available for preorder on the iOS App Store and is scheduled to launch on March 13, 2025. Instagram head Adam Mosseri announced the release on Threads, saying, “We’re excited to launch ‘Edits,’ an app for those who love creating videos on their phones. Despite everything going on, our focus remains on delivering the best tools for creators.”

Mosseri described Edits as much more than a standard video editing app, highlighting its extensive creative features. These include a dedicated tab for inspiration, tools for organizing early ideas, an enhanced high-quality camera, a comprehensive suite of editing tools, the ability to share drafts with others, and detailed performance insights for videos shared on Instagram.

Additionally, Instagram has expanded the maximum video length for Reels to three minutes, doubling the previous limit of 90 seconds. This update aims to give creators more room for creativity and storytelling. Mosseri announced the change in a Reel, stating, “Creators have told us that 90 seconds is too limiting. We believe the new three-minute limit will help you share the stories you want to tell.
