The 14-member opposition bloc INDIA will meet for the first time on Wednesday to discuss seat-sharing and election strategy. The top decision-making body of the INDIA bloc, the 14-member coordination committee, will meet today at 4 p.m. at Pawar’s Delhi home, the NCP chief.
A group of over 20 opposition parties have come together to form the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) in order to challenge the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
The INDIA bloc will be led by a 14-member coordination committee, which will be responsible for making key decisions for the alliance. The committee was constituted at the bloc’s last meeting in Mumbai, and its members include leaders from the Congress, the Trinamool Congress, the Samajwadi Party, the Nationalist Congress Party, and the Rashtriya Janata Dal, among others.
India bloc meeting plan
The INDIA bloc is expected to play a major role in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, and its coordination committee will be responsible for finalizing the bloc’s strategy and ensuring that it is united in its fight against the NDA.
The coordination committee of the INDIA bloc is expected to discuss the formula for seat-sharing for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The formula is likely to be based on the performance of parties in past elections and the strength of the largest party in each state.
Seat-sharing agreements are expected to be easy in Bihar, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu, but could be challenging in West Bengal, Delhi, and Punjab.
Several heavyweights in the bloc, including West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, and Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Lalu Yadav, are believed to have pressed for an immediate discussion on seat-sharing in previous meetings.

The opposition parties are eager to finalize a seat-sharing formula as soon as possible so that they can nominate a single candidate to challenge the BJP in the Lok Sabha elections.
Also parties have acknowledged that they need to put aside their differences and work together if they want to defeat the BJP. The meeting will be an important opportunity for the parties to discuss their plans for the upcoming elections and to finalize their strategy. Leaders will also need to ensure that the different sub-groups of the bloc are working together effectively.
The 14-member coordination committee of the INDIA bloc includes leaders from the Congress, the DMK, the JMM, the Shiv Sena, the RJD, the AAP, the SP, the JD(U), the CPI, the National Conference, the PDP, the TMC, and the CPI-M. Abhishek Banerjee, the TMC leader who was summoned by the Enforcement Directorate to appear before it on the same day, will not attend the meeting.
The CPI-M has not yet selected a member to participate in the committee and will not be present at the meeting.
