India and France Finalize ₹63,000 Crore Rafale Deal.
India and France have signed a pivotal agreement to purchase 26 Rafale naval fighter jets for the Indian Navy, with the deal valued at approximately ₹63,000 crore. This deal enhances defense cooperation between the two countries, strengthening India’s naval capabilities with advanced aircraft technology.
India has finalized a significant agreement to acquire 26 Rafale M naval fighter jets from Dassault Aviation, valued at ₹63,000 crore. These advanced jets will be deployed on the INS Vikrant aircraft carrier. The Cabinet Committee on Security has approved the procurement of 22 single-seat and 4 twin-seat variants to meet the Indian Navy’s immediate operational needs. While India works on developing its own deck-based twin-engine fighter, this deal includes a range of support services, such as weapons, simulators, spares, crew training, and logistics assistance from France.

In July 2023, India’s Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, approved the acquisition of 26 Rafale M fighter jets for the Indian Navy. This decision is part of the effort to enhance the Navy’s operational strength. The Rafale M, renowned for its durability, is designed to thrive in the demanding conditions of carrier operations. Tailored for 40,000-ton class aircraft carriers, it is currently operational on the French Navy’s Charles de Gaulle, proving its effectiveness and adaptability in harsh maritime environments.
