Government Tests Emergency Alert System with Loud Notification : Many Android users received a loud, urgent notification today that said “Emergency alert: Severe.” This was a test of the government’s emergency alert system.

The government sent a test message to many users to test the emergency cell broadcast technology being developed by the Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT).

This message was a test of the government’s new emergency alert system, which is being implemented by the National Disaster Management Authority. It is designed to send timely alerts to people during emergencies, and this message was sent to test the system’s functionality. You can ignore this message, as no action is required on your part.

Today, the Department of Telecommunication (DoT) sent a test flash message to mobile users on various telecom operators in India via the Cell Broadcasting System (CBS) between 12:00 and 12:44 PM IST. The message informed recipients that it was a test and that no action was required.

Similar test messages have been sent to many users in recent weeks. The Department of Telecommunications Cell Broadcasting System (DoT CBS) plans to conduct additional tests periodically in different regions. These tests aim to assess the efficiency and effectiveness of mobile operators’ emergency warning broadcast capabilities and cell broadcast systems.

The government is collaborating with the National Disaster Management Authority to develop a new emergency alert system that will be used to warn people of impending disasters, such as earthquakes, tsunamis, and flash floods.

Speaking about the test earlier, Rajkumar Upadhyay, CEO of C-DOT told that the cell broadcast technology is currently only available from a foreign supplier. As a result, C-DOT is working on developing it in-house. Upadhyay said that the cell broadcast technology is under development and will be used by NDMA to send alerts directly to mobile phone screens during disasters. It is currently being tested on the Jio and BSNL networks.
