Government Presents a Basic Structure to Restrain Fake Reviews on E- Commerce Sites

The Union government on 21 November presented a basic structure to restrain fake reviews on e- commerce sites. The basic structure, ‘Indian Standard (IS) 19000 : 2022’, has been processed or developed by the Bureau of India standards and is set to every online sites which brings out public reviews.

Consumer Affair Secretary Rohit Kumar Singh Highlights some of the important facts regarding public reviews “reviews that play an important part in purchasing in e – commerce websites. They get more crucial in basically 3 sectors – Restaurant ,Tour and Travel and Consumer Durables”.

In today’s time they are receiving complaints that these public reviews are getting threat to the society. It’s not just happening in India but all around the world, countries are suffering and unable to understand how to curb the fake reviews. As  day by day reviews are getting more and more honored and popular, probably everyone is suffering from this.

Some countries are making rules, some countries are trying to form legal provisions. But According to Mr. Rohit Kumar Singh India is the first country which is forming a standard and everyone will take the standards rule. However, this was not a judicial order but it is a developed structure that will be followed by every e- commerce websites as soon as possible and hold fast to the standards. So, if the public want to see in case their e – commerce sites is following the standards or not, can check by going BIS and get it examined and get it verified and validated.

But if they are not examined properly and are doing the practice of which can then be called as a unjust buy and sell practice and then under the provisions of the consumer protection Act, that manages with unjust buy and sell practices, the CCPA or consumer court can take severe panel action. Yet, it can be called as a kind of hand gripping and the ability to understand behavior or self-regulation.

E- Platforms like Tata Sons, Flipkart, Google, Meta, Swiggy, Zomato, Amazon and Reliance Retail also took part in the discussion or negotiation process of the standards on fake various.
