Govardhan Puja is a Hindu festival that celebrates the triumph of Lord Krishna across the rain god Indra. It is said that Lord Indra was enraged by the villagers of Gokul for adoring Krishna rather than Lord Indra. In response, he resulted in heavy rains and thunderstorms flooding the residents of village.
Given this, Lord Krishna upped Mount Govardhan on his little finder protected the villagers beneath it for seven days till Indra relented.
