Google Maps is getting smarter! With a bunch of new features. Google Maps gets a boost of smarts in India! They’re following up on their big AI announcements at I/O 2024 with new features specifically designed for Indian users. This comes alongside Google’s overall push to make Maps more helpful everywhere with AI-powered features like Geospatial AR.
They’ve added six new features, powered by AI and local smarts, to help you navigate like a pro. From dodging narrow roads to finding hidden gems, Google Maps just got even better in India. Here’s what’s new:
- Narrow road navigation? No sweat! Google Maps helps you avoid them or navigate them confidently.
- Flyovers in sight! Get clear warnings about upcoming flyovers so you can plan your route accordingly.
- Explore like a local! Discover curated lists of must-see places in popular Indian destinations.
Google Maps feels your pain! They’ve built a new AI feature for India that helps you avoid narrow roads altogether.
Here’s the magic:
- Super-smart AI: Google trained a special AI using satellite images, Street View, and even info on building distances to guess how wide a road is.
- Goodbye narrow stress: This lets Maps suggest routes that skip tight squeezes, saving you time and frustration.
- Can’t be avoided? If a narrow road is unavoidable, Maps gives you a heads-up to proceed with caution.
Bonus: This feature is all about safety for everyone. Less stressed drivers on wider roads mean a safer environment for bikers and pedestrians too.
Where to find it? Look for the “narrow roads” update in Google Maps if you’re driving in Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Coimbatore, Indore, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, or Guwahati. More cities to come soon!
Flyovers No More a Mystery! ️

This super-smart AI uses satellite images, Street View, and even info on building distances to guess how wide a road is. With this knowledge, Maps can suggest routes that skip those tight squeezes, saving you time and frustration. But if a narrow road is unavoidable, you’ll get a heads-up to proceed with caution. This feature is all about making things safer for everyone on the road!
