Google ditches endless scrolling for search results

After introducing a continuous scrolling feature for mobile (October 2021) and desktop (late 2022), Google is returning to the old way of browsing search results. You’ll need to click “Next” on the desktop and use a “More results” button on mobile to see additional pages. Google says this change improves search speed by focusing on delivering the results you request instead of automatically loading more. The switch began with the desktop on June 25th, 2024, and mobile will follow in the coming months.

Google says “goodbye” to endless scrolling, and hello to pagination!

Remember flipping through search results page by page? Google is bringing that back! They’re ditching the continuous scrolling feature launched for desktops in late 2022 (and mobiles in October 2021). This means you’ll go back to clicking “next” on desktops and using a “more results” button on mobiles. Google claims this offers more control and speeds things up by focusing on what you search for, instead of pre-loading everything. This change starts on desktop (June 25th, 2024) with mobiles following soon.

This will likely please those who prefer a more organized browsing experience, especially when hunting down specific information.

Google wants to streamline search results and ditch the wait! According to Search Engine Land, they’re scrapping continuous scrolling because it pre-loads pages you might not need. This frees up resources to prioritize your desired results, making searches quicker. Plus, Google believes the classic page-by-page system gives you more control over how many results you see simultaneously, leading to a better overall experience.

Get ready to click “next”! Google ditches endless scrolling for search results.

The familiar page numbers are back! Google is removing the continuous scroll feature, so you’ll see a navigation bar at the bottom with “next” and page numbers. This lets you take control and potentially find things faster. Jump straight to a specific page instead of waiting for everything to load at once.

Mobile users, your turn is coming! In the next few months, you’ll also see a “more results” button instead of endless scrolling. Google hasn’t given an exact date, but expect it to roll out gradually over the coming months.

Looks like Google’s automatic page loading wasn’t quite hitting the mark. They found it wasn’t as fast as users expected. So, they’re switching back to the classic page numbers you know and love. This should make finding what you need quicker by focusing on delivering the most relevant info right away, according to Search Engine Land.
