Dhanteras, known as the festival of wealth and fortune, inaugurates the beginning of Diwali (Festive of Lights). It is highly significant to Hindu culture and religion. Celebrated on the thirteenth lunar day of the dark fortnight ( at Krishna paksha) Dhanteras is celebrated today as it defines the Worship of Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Kubera (god of wealth and prosperity). This day signifies the most propitious day to buy gold and silver and brings happiness and prosperity to the home. Decorating homes from dhanteras purifies and adorns homes.

After sunset, devotees offer prayer to Goddess Lakshmi chanting the dhanteras katha to all of them, lightening oil lamps, purchasing Kuber yantra, and brass elephants considered the lucy for home.
