The Defense Ministry has given its consent for purchasing the weapons of worth Rs 4,276 crore for anti-tank and air defense missile to be fitted onboard the modern light helicopter and a new short range air defense missile.
Defense acquisition council headed by Rajnath Singh accepted the proposal on 10 th January for three capital investment purchases in which – two proposals for the Indian Army and one for the Navy. The proposals comes under the indigenously Designed Developed and manufactured (IDDM) kind.
The given consent for the acquisition of HELINA Anti- Tank Guided Missiles, launchers and related support apparatus will be a crucial capability booster for the ALH Fleet of the Army.

Talking about helicopters which are presently armed with machine guns and rockets and the missile will raise its attacking power that will support in enhancing ground bases. The army will also receive indigenously made very Short Range Air Defense (VSHORAD) missile equipment that are prepared by DRDO.
Also the Intra Red (IR) homing missile will be a crucial inclusion for soldiers posted on the northern borders to take on approaching air threats such as drones, helicopters and aircrafts.
Previously, India was relying on imports from Russia for this kind of system. After these recent developments in the northern borders there is a need to concentrate on productive air defense weapon system which are light weight and carriageable, “defense ministry officials informed. For the Navy, consents have been given for the purchase of Brahmos launcher and Fire control Equipment. These equipment’s will be integrated onboard the Shivalik class of ships and next Generation Missile Vessels (NGMVs) for Indian Navy. Now these ships will have increased capacity of executing maritime strike operations and the capability to destroy opponent’s warships,” the official said.
