As the AQI ratio is worsened day by so, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal declared a satisfactory decision as the closure of primary schools only for two days because of air pollution. This step can be proven good, especially for the primary kids as the air could be more harmful for those and old age as well.
Central Government also announced a prohibition on non-essential construction activities in Delhi – NCR yesterday, as heavy smog surrounded the whole city and the level of pollution reached the “Extreme Severe” zone.
Delhi sub-committee of GRAP gathered and reviewed the AQI and weather forecasts from IITM and IMD. The decision came out to cancel all the building activities in the complete NCR. The government cancels all the projects related to railway, metro, defense, healthcare, and airport projects as this can also be the main cause of pollution. The government also initiates activities like water sprinkling on roads and dust control agents.
CAQM ( The commission of Air Quality Management ) has distinguished the GRAP (Graded Response Action Plan for the NCR ( National Capital Region) in four stages on the air quality in Delhi:
Stage I: Poor (AQI 201-300)
Stage II: Very Poor (AQI 301-400)
Stage III: Severe (AQI 401-450)
Stage IV : Severe +(AQI>450)
The Central government of India enacted the GRAP well before Delhi’s air quality deteriorated day by day as an anticipatory measure to depict extremely poor quality levels of air.
