Calling all mind-readers! Elon Musk’s Neuralink is searching for their next test pilot to control gadgets with thought alone!

Elon Musk’s Neuralink is searching for a recruit to test their brain implant that lets you control devices with your thoughts!

Think you have the power of thought control? Neuralink is looking for participants in the US and Canada, but applying doesn’t guarantee a spot in their current or future trials. Head over to their “Patient Registry” and hit “Apply” to see if you qualify. Calling all thought-control pioneers! Elon Musk used his platform (previously known as Twitter) to announce that Neuralink is recruiting a second participant for their Telepathy implant. This tech lets users control devices with their minds! The first successful user, Noland (@ModdedQuad), can share his experience.

Earlier this year, Noland Arbaugh became a pioneer in brain-computer interfaces. After a spinal cord injury, the 29-year-old Texan regained a piece of his digital life thanks to Neuralink’s chip. He controlled a cursor with his thoughts and even played games like Civilization VI and Mario Kart! Now, they’re searching for the next person to join this groundbreaking trial.

While Noland initially aced his mind-control tests, things got bumpy. Some implant wires (think tiny threads) in his brain started moving out of place, possibly due to air bubbles left over from surgery.

Noland’s journey with Neuralink hit a snag. In a recent interview, he opened up about the emotional toll. “The cursor control started slipping,” he shared. “At first, I thought it was settings, but then they told me the implant threads were coming loose.” You can feel the disappointment in his voice.

“That news hit me hard. I thought I had a whole month of using it, and then suddenly it was all over.”

This glitch was a bummer for Noland, who hoped for more. But Neuralink didn’t give up! They tweaked the software that reads the implant’s signals, and guess what? It’s working better now!

Even with the bumps in the road, Noland hasn’t thrown in the towel. He’s back to using the implant, this time tracing letters on his screen. This valuable data is helping Neuralink refine its software to recognize words more efficiently. Their ultimate goal? Unlocking the power of complete sentences through brain-computer interfaces!
