Approx 11K Faculty Ranks Vacant in Government Universities, IITs and IIMs

According to Minister Of Education (MOE) more than 11,000 faculty ranks are vacant in government universities, IITs and IIMs all around India, the information or statistics was confirmed by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan while giving a manuscript in the House of the people (Lok Sabha).

As stated in Data over 45 government universities and a collectively 6,180 posts of Professor, Associate Professor and Assistant Professor from a total sum of 18,956 authorized posts are vacant. In the same manner, in the Indian Institute of Technology (IITs), a sum of 4,502 posts out of 11,170 authorized posts are unfilled.

Also when we see the data of Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs), there are a total of 493 posts out of 1,566 collectively are unoccupied and available. Existence of posts are filling thereafter is an uninterrupted process.

Government Universities in India are freestanding and self- ruling bodies, well established under respective Government acts. The hiring and enrolling process is made by the statutory bodies according to their acts, measures and norms and University Grants Commission (UGC) instructions and directions.

The Union Education Minister has also given the direction to all Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) to recruit and refill the vacant vacancies in the respective manner. Additionally the written data advices to recruit the vacant places in a mission mode, the Education Ministry has also started a monthly observing mechanism.

Among the total of final number 4,140 vacant posts in Government Universities and IIMs, a sum of 961 seats are reserved for SC category, 578 for ST category and 1,657 are for OBC category. On the other hand EWS and PWD category get the reservation of 643 and 301 in the same order.

The Act of the Central Educational Institutions notified on July 9, 2019 to assure arrangement of the index and schedule by understanding the University as a unit.

The Act also provides reservation available in every Higher Educational Universities counting out the institutions listed in the schedule and also there are some more exceptions as mentioned in the Act. Today there are 23 IITs Institution in India whereas the total number of IIMs are 20.
