Celebrating 50 years of “Amul,” Prime Minister Modi joined the golden jubilee celebrations of the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation, the force behind the beloved ‘Amul’ brand. During his speech, he underscored the government’s commitment and continued support for small-scale agriculture. He highlighted the federation’s role in driving and supporting small farmers, portraying it as a beacon of hope for rural communities. Modi showcased the positive impact and transformative power of organization and cooperation in these areas.

 

India’s dairy industry is experiencing a surge, with a growth rate six times faster than the global average (2%), reaching a staggering 8 crore. Over the past decade, India has witnessed a remarkable 60% increase in milk production, solidifying and transforming the nation’s dairy industry. Access to milk in India has also risen by 40% over the same period.

 

Amul stands out brightly in the industry. The PM took a peek at an exhibition showcasing dairy firm goods and extolled the virtues of Amul, referring to it as “Amul Jaisa koi Nahi” (There’s no one like Amul). Amul embodies trust, reliability, integrity, authenticity, and consumer confidence. It is also a symbol of farmer empowerment, serving as a model for sustainable and inclusive development in agriculture and empowering rural communities. Amul prioritizes the well-being and prosperity of its farmers, empowering them to become entrepreneurs and participate in decision-making.

Today, India’s development journey is powered by women, who play a central role in leading. The PM lauded the success of India’s dairy sector as a powerful source of inspiration. GCMMF has emerged as the number one organization in the world that owns the AMUL brand, achieving a remarkable eight-place leap within the global dairy hierarchy. Founded in 1973 with a revenue of Rs 20 crore per year, GCMMF has grown into a leading industry under the leadership of Jayen Mehta. It is on track to generate Rs 80,000 crore in sales through the Amul brand and is expected to reach a collective turnover of Rs 61,000 crore for the Amul federation.
