Aap Leader Shelly Oberoi Elected as New Mayer of Delhi, Triumph over BJP’s Rekha Gupta by 34 Votes

Delhi has found its New Mayer as Aam Aadmi Party leader Shelly Oberoi won the election with 150 votes. She triumph over Bhartiya Janta Party leader Rekha Gupta by 34 votes on Wednesday, 22nd February.

The goons have lost and the public won, said AAP chief and National Capital Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal as he congratulated the New Mayor on her magnificent win.

She assured the people that she will run the House in a democratic manner. “I expect you all will maintain the honor of the House and comply with its smooth functioning”, Shelly said after the win.

Aam Aadmi party got 150 votes in the 274 member Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) House.

If the nominated member were permitted to vote, the strength of the BJP would have increased to 123 from 113, near to the 138 majority mark. But the aldermen did not vote on Wednesday.

In the election for the Standing Committee, Arvind Kejriwal’s Party is likely to secure three seats and the BJP two. This contest is over the 6th seat.

In advance of the polls, Shelly Oberoi had told to the news reporters that on previous occurrences the Former officer was running the House unlawfully, breaching the constitutional provisions “The BJP is not capable to take the instruction given by the Delhi voters”.

She expressed her confidence after winning the election to the post of mayor, deputy mayor and standing committee.
On 6th January, the House was convened for the 1st time. It was then adjourned following rancorous exchanges between BJP and Aap party members.

The 2nd and 3rd meetings held on 24th January and 6th February also failed to perform the exercise and were adjourned. Both the parties blamed each other for the delay of the elections following the tussle over the decision to
permit nominated member to vote.
