Delhi Election 2025 Live Updates: The 2025 Delhi Assembly elections are anticipated to feature tough competition among the three major political parties: the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and the Indian National Congress (INC).

In the previous elections held in 2020, the AAP achieved a sweeping victory by winning 62 out of 70 seats, the BJP secured 8 seats, and the Congress failed to establish a notable presence in the assembly.

The Election Commission has announced that over 1.55 crore voters in Delhi will cast their ballots for the Assembly election on February 5, with the counting of votes scheduled for February 8. Delhi comprises 70 Assembly constituencies, including 12 reserved seats. The election will occur across 13,033 polling stations to elect members of the eighth Delhi Assembly.

As per the Election Commission’s timeline, the polling will occur in a single phase. The deadline for filing nominations is January 17, and candidates can withdraw their nominations until January 20. With the schedule now announced, the model code of conduct has become effective in the national capital.

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, during a press conference, announced that over 2 lakh young voters will be casting their votes for the first time in this election. The Election Commission also introduced various initiatives to ensure a smooth voting process, including measures to facilitate easy access to polling booths for senior citizens and persons with disabilities. Additionally, voters above the age of 85 will have the option to vote from home.

AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal urged party workers to give their best in the preparations, stating, “Even the strongest systems are no match for your passion. You are our greatest asset. This election is a contest between the politics of progress and the politics of slander. Victory will be ours.

The BJP president welcomed the announcement of the election dates, urging voters to elect a government focused on building a developed Delhi. He emphasized the BJP’s commitment to the city’s comprehensive growth under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Addressing concerns about Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) during the press conference, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar dismissed allegations of tampering, stating that EVMs are secure and cannot be hacked. “EVMs are tamper-proof. All claims of manipulation have been thoroughly investigated and disproven. This technology has consistently ensured free and fair elections,” he affirmed.

The Election Commission also responded to accusations of irregularities in voter lists. Both the AAP and BJP have alleged that each other manipulated voter rolls by adding or removing names to gain an electoral advantage. Mr. Kumar clarified that the commission strictly adheres to due process when making any changes to the voter lists.
