PM Modi to inaugurate Delhi’s RRTS section today.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate a 13-kilometer stretch of the Rapid Regional Transit System (RRTS) on Sunday, linking Sahibabad in Ghaziabad to New Ashok Nagar in East Delhi, according to officials familiar with the project. This development will enable the RRTS to connect Delhi with Meerut in the National Capital Region (NCR), as stated by officials from the National Capital
Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) overseeing the initiative.
Delhi’s RRTS section today.
Following the formal inauguration of the Delhi section and two RRTS stations in the city by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he is expected to travel from Sahibabad to New Ashok Nagar. The 13-kilometer stretch will be opened to the public at 5 PM.
This launch marks the arrival of RRTS trains in Delhi, introducing a new era of high-speed mobility and enhancing regional connectivity for the national capital. “Starting Sunday at 5 PM, Namo Bharat trains will operate for the public at intervals of 15 minutes,” stated Puneet Vats, spokesperson for the National Capital Region Transport Corporation.
The trains running on the RRTS corridor have been named Namo Bharat. According to NCRTC officials, fares for the standard coach on Namo Bharat trains will range from₹20 to₹150, while traveling in the premium coach will cost between₹30 and₹225.
Only a 42-kilometer section of the RRTS corridor, spanning from Sahibabad to Meerut South, is operational, entirely within Uttar Pradesh. Once Prime Minister Modi inaugurates the Delhi section, the operational RRTS corridor will extend to 55 kilometers.
The launch of this section has established a direct connection between Meerut City and the Capital through Namo Bharat trains. This link significantly reduces travel time by two-thirds, enabling commuters to travel from New Ashok Nagar to Meerut South in under 40 minutes,” said Vats.
Officials stated that the full 82-kilometer corridor, extending from Jangpura in Delhi to Modipuram in Meerut, is expected to be completed by mid-2025.
While the entire Uttar Pradesh segment of the transit system is elevated, half of the 13-kilometer section being inaugurated is underground, making it the first underground portion of the RRTS.

Officials added that the new stations feature dedicated pick-up and drop-off zones, ramps, and spacious lifts suitable for wheelchairs and stretchers to enhance accessibility. Additionally, tactile paths have been installed for the convenience of visually impaired passengers.
Each Namo Bharat train includes a dedicated coach exclusively for women, along with reserved seats in other coaches for women, senior citizens, and Divyaangjans. The trains also feature designated spaces for wheelchairs and stretchers. Furthermore, panic buttons have been installed inside the coaches and on the platform screen doors to allow passengers to request assistance in emergencies.
