Google has unveiled the all-new Android 15, packed with upgrades and features
While Pixel devices get early access through the beta program starting now, most users must wait a bit longer. The final public release is expected sometime after July 2024. While Google has unveiled the exciting new features of Android 15 with multiple beta releases since April 11, 2024, the big question for most users is: when can I expect it on my device?
As expected, Google Pixel phones are at the front line for the Android 15 beta. Pixel 6, 7, and 8 series, the Fold, and the Tablet are all compatible now.
Beyond Pixels, the beta program is expanding! Several other manufacturers are offering Android 15 beta access in select regions, including:
- HONOR Magic 6 Pro and Magic V2 (India, Taiwan, Malaysia, Thailand)
- Nothing Phone (2a and 2)
- OnePlus 12 and OnePlus Open
- TECNO Camon 30 Pro 5G
Some big names are missing though. Brands like ASUS, Samsung, and Sony haven’t revealed their plans for the Android 15 beta yet.
Even if your phone isn’t part of the official beta program, you can still taste Android 15. Here’s how:
Fire up the Android Emulator in Android Studio. This is a software program for developers that lets you test apps on a simulated phone or tablet. Download the 64-bit system images for Android 15. These are the core files that run the operating system. With the emulator, you can explore the new features of Android 15. Plus, you can adjust screen sizes and other settings to see how it might look on different devices.
While the beta program lets some experience the new features early, most users are eager to know when the final version arrives.
Look for Android 15 after July. Google targets “Platform Stability” by July, which signifies a near-final version.
Pixel launch paves the way. Traditionally, Google releases the final Android version alongside its new Pixel phones. With Pixel 9 likely launching in autumn, expect Android 15 around the same time.
Android 15: A Big Upgrade for Users and Developers
Google’s latest update, Android 15, is here with exciting improvements for both those building apps (developers) and those using them (us!).
For Developers:
Enhanced User Privacy: A new Privacy Sandbox gives users more control over their data by limiting how apps can track and access it.
Fine-tuned cameras: Camera extensions provide developers with advanced tools to precisely control camera hardware, leading to better integration and overall camera performance in apps.
Smoother Performance: A brand new performance optimization framework helps developers manage a device’s thermals, CPU, and GPU more efficiently. This means you can expect your phone to run faster and smoother.
For Users:
Declutter Your Phone: Easily archive apps you rarely use directly from settings. This frees up storage space without the worry of losing app data entirely.
Improved Accessibility: Android 15 offers better support for Braille displays in TalkBack, making the OS more user-friendly for those who are visually impaired.
Android 15: Security, Convenience, and More Control
On top of the features mentioned earlier, Android 15 brings a few more ways to enhance your phone experience:
Top-Notch Security: A new OS-level API allows for end-to-end encryption of contact keys, providing an extra layer of protection for your sensitive data.
Immersive Experience: By default, apps will utilize your entire screen for a more captivating viewing experience.
Healthier You: Health Connect gets an upgrade, allowing it to track even more health data types.

Share What You Want: Partial screen sharing lets you record specific app windows instead of your entire screen. This gives you more control over what you share with others.
