NCERT Committee recommends renaming " Ancient history " to " Classical history and "India" to "Bharat" in textbooks

CI Issac, chairperson of the committee, utered that the committee has suggested exchanging “ancient history (India) ” with “Classical history (Bharat)” in textbooks.

The committee established a panel to revamp the course of study of schools.  Issac said that the approx seven members of the committee collectively acceded to swapping ” India ” with ” Bharat ” same with ” ancient history ” exchange to ” Classical history” in the modern    NCERT textbooks.

Article 1(1) of the Constitution of India asserts that the country’s name is “India which is Bharat. The label Bharat in ancient history is originating back to Vishnu Purana, which is over 7,000 years old.

The name ” India” was widely proposed only later after the British East India Company was set up as well and the Battle of Plassey was battled in the year 1757. Hence, the committee has overwhelmingly advised that the name “Bharat” be applied in NCERT textbooks for all ages of students.

The name “Bharat” was used first formally when the Indian government forwarded out invitations to the G20 summit organized by the President, conversing with him as “President of Bharat” instead of ” President of India”. Amid the G20 summit in New Delhi Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s label read “Bharat” in place of “India”.

Furthermore,  the committee, one of the 25 committees compounded by the NCERT in the year 2021 to arrange stance papers on different subjects and subject matters also suggested changing these in textbooks. As Issac said Britain disunited into three parts which are ancient, medieval, and modern to depict India as a backward country that was oblivious to scientific cognizance and development. There are a lot of examples of India’s accomplishments at that time, for example, Aryabhatta’s works on the model of the solar system.  Issac also advised educating the classical period of the history of India in schools next to medieval and modern times.  He also declared and featured the Hindu victories mentioned in textbooks and mentioned that Hindu victories concluded sultans and Mughals are not presently mentioned.
