Delhi air quality remains “inferior” ahead of winter, raising concerns about health problems
The air quality in Delhi, the national capital of India, has remained in the “inferior” category for several days, raising concerns about the health of residents. The Maharashtra counterpart Mumbai also has “very poor” air quality.
The Environment Minister said a meeting has been scheduled with all relevant departments on Monday to discuss how to implement GRAP Phase 2 in Delhi, especially in light of the upcoming Diwali festival.
Delhi’s air quality is at hazard due to colder weather and slower winds, which can trap particulate matter close to ground. The second phase of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) has been implemented to reduce the impact of pollution on people’s health.
Rai also said that a meeting has been called with all relevant departments to discuss the carried out of GRAP Phase 2, especially in light of the upcoming Diwali festival. He added that while the weather cannot be managed, the government is committed to controlling pollution sources to lessen its impact on people’s health.
When asked about the steps being taken to reduce pollution in Delhi, Gopal Rai said that the second phase of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) focuses on cleaning and water sprinkling.
According to Minister Rai, the main changes under GRAP 2 are:
- Amplified cleaning and water sprinkling
- Grew frequency of buses and trains
- Expanded parking charges to discourage people from using their vehicles
- Make advice to Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) to provide heaters to their residents to lessen the need for bonfires in the winter.
These changes are designed to reduce air pollution in Delhi, which is a major problem during the winter months.
Delhi air quality remains “inferior” on Monday morning
The air quality in Delhi, the national capital of India, remained in the “inferior” category on Monday morning, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 306. This is slightly worse than the AQI of 302 recorded on Sunday afternoon.

The AQI is a measure of air quality. An AQI of 300 or above is considered to be “inferior,” which can cause respiratory problems and other health problems, especially for sensitive groups such as children and the elderly.
The Delhi government is accepting some measures to lessen air pollution in the city, but the problem residue a major challenge. Residents are advised to take precautions to protect their health, such as wearing masks when outdoors and escaping strenuous activity.
