Every year on 4th March, National Safety Day is observed by citizens of India. The Day is celebrated with the aim to encourage and promote safe working atmosphere and ensure safety of citizens in every consequence.
The day is important to raise awareness about safety measures and concords in order to avoid any kind of unfortunate incident.

The theme of National Safety Day 2023 is ‘Our Aim – Zero Harm’.
Know the History of National Safety Day
In 1965, the Ministry of Labour and Employment of the country arranged the conference on Industrial Safety. It took place from 11th December to 13th December in collaboration with Employer’s state governments, trade unions, institutions and organizations.
In the conference, many people realized the urgency of start out National and State Safety Councils. Their demand for NSC was accepted by the 24th session of SLC (Standing Labour Committee) in February 1966.
On 4th March’1966, the ministry of Labour constituted the National Safety Day that was 1st registered as a society under the Societies Registration Act, 1860 and after this, it registered as a public trust under the Bombay Public Trust Act, 1950.
This Day was 1st observed in 1971 to celebrate the starting of the National Safety Council and raise safety Knowledge.
Know the Importance of National Safety Day
The day presents an occasion to tell people about the significance of safety measures and precautionary protective measures against possible danger. It is conducive to increase the reach of the Safe, Health and Environment (SHE) movement.
The other Motive of National Safety Day is to bring stakeholders together from various industrial sectors and motivating them to take part in (SHE) movement. It also focuses to encourage SHE activities.
Activities for the Day
This Day observes the distribution of banners and message of SHE slogans. These materials are produced by the National Safety Council and the Funding collected from them is used in NSC’s monetary self- support. Also, various seminars, discussions and public functions are seen that are covered by All India Radio Stations and Doordarshan Channel.
