Every year on 1st February, India observes the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) Day. The day is celebrated to honor and pay tribute to the ICG Force who has an significant role in safeguarding the Indian Coast and imposing regulations in the maritime zones in the country.

ICG has saved more than 11,082 lives at ocean up to this point that means these force is responsible for saving one valuable existence at ocean every two days.
The Indian Coast Guard Force holds rescue and injury operations in the deep ocean, not only this but also protects the borders of India against the enemy countries.

History and Importance of the Indian Coast Guard Day
The interim Indian Coast Guard was came in view on 1st February’1977, to stop the sea- borne import and export secretly against the law and without paying the actual duties imposed by Indian Law as these smuggling of goods hinders and disturb the country, domestic economy.
On 18th August’1978, the ICG was officially announced by the Indian Parliament to be observed on 1 st February. Since its foundation, the ICG has saved many lives and captured miscreants and smugglers. Since its institution, the ICG has also controlled drugs and black marketing that worth’s thousands of crores.
The ICG is headed by the Director- General, who lives at the Headquarter of Indian Coast Guard in New Delhi. The work of the ICG is Indian Navy, the police and the Customs Department. The Force is assigned to regions that includes the North- West region placed in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, the East region Chennai, also the North- east region Andaman and Nicobar and Kolkata.
