The Employees Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) come out with a notice that will have consequential effect on the members of EPFs who have been getting a higher pension.
According to the sources EPFO is lessening and reviewing the higher pension of those members who retired before 1st September’2014 barring the option of higher pension but were getting the same benefits as its remaining members.
This action of EPFO will not only reduce the pension, but it also aims to recover the higher pension that was provided to these retired members till date.
These cases will be reviewed to make sure that the retired members do not receive higher pension from the month of January 2023.
Before reviewing the higher pension, the organization will send notices to the unsettled members to prove their cases. Although, these members has a chance to prove the exercise of option under Para 11(3) before their retirement.

ACC Zones and RPFCs of the regions will make sure that Pension more than wage ceiling of Rs 5000 or Rs 6500 is permitted only when it fall under the direction given in Para 44 (ix) read with Para (vi) of Respected Supreme Court’s decision on 4 th November’2022.
But if pension was revised in wrong way then such pension will be stopped and restored to pension on wages more than the ceiling of Rs 5000 or Rs 6500, as per the direction given in Para 44 (x) read with Para 44(v) of Respected Supreme Court’s decision on 4th November’2022.
Although, there were members who continued getting higher pensions by Fighting court cases so this time EPFO also intends to check their pension.
In these cases, EPFO will carefully look and identify the matter where higher pension was allowed on account of decision made by any court and agreeable decision will be obtained from the concerned court citing the order of Supreme Court.
